Celebrating Creativity and Culture: Highlights from the Third Annual Black Hippie Festival in Greensboro
The Third Annual Black Hippie Festival took place on June 19th in Greensboro, North Carolina, offering a vibrant showcase of unique artists and diverse vendors. Founded by DJ DeDe, a co-founder of Carolina Space Kids, the festival was inspired by his peers’ initiatives to create their own festivals and showcases. Named after DJ DeDe's clothing brand, Black Hippie, the festival reflects his identity and vision.
The event was divided into four sets, each featuring different artists and performances. The first set highlighted emerging talents such as YTN Jay and GhettoKitty. The second set included the rap group Dead President$, the up-and-coming artist BanHoes, and others. The third set was dedicated to Carolina Space Kids, featuring performances by Dreko 919, Fresco from34, NMB Ceez, Billy Pe$o, and Wyked.
The final set was a special presentation of DJ DeDe's latest project, DERP (Drip Employs Real People), produced exclusively for the festival. Each artist contributed a song inspired by the acronym, creating a four-track project performed during this set. Additionally, the festival included a fashion show featuring brands such as Fuck Shit, Slick Relentless, and Packman. Attendees also enjoyed delicious offerings from LaLa’s Crib, including Jerk Chicken Eggrolls and Chicken Kabobs.
The Black Hippie Festival not only highlighted the rising talent in North Carolina but also provided a platform for local vendors to showcase their products. We look forward to next year's event. Check out our Events page for interviews from the Black Hippie Fest.
