Saint Augustine’s University Reclaims Accreditation After SACSCOC Arbitration Reversal

In a landmark decision, Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) has successfully reclaimed its accreditation status following the reversal of a prior ruling by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). This decision, announced by the SACSCOC arbitration committee, overturns the removal of SAU’s membership initially decreed in December 2023 and upheld by the February Appeals Committee.

Brian Boulware, Chairman of the SAU Board of Trustees, hailed the arbitration committee’s unanimous decision as a pivotal moment for the university's future. “This decision corrects the injustice inflicted upon SAU and highlights our unwavering commitment to excellence and growth,” he stated.

Despite this victory, SAU remains on Probation for Cause, which allows the university to continue addressing issues related to financial resources and oversight. Interim President Dr. Marcus H. Burgess emphasized the significance of the reinstatement, noting it as a testament to SAU's dedication to academic standards and a thriving educational environment. “We are resolute in our mission to overcome challenges and emerge stronger than ever,” Dr. Burgess affirmed.

The reversal is seen as a critical step in revitalizing SAU’s reputation and dispelling doubts about its longevity. Dr. Janelle Jennings-Alexander, Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, commended the resilience and commitment of the SAU community. “Our faculty and staff’s tireless efforts to preserve SAU’s legacy of educational distinction have been instrumental in this accreditation journey,” she said.

With this reinstatement, SAU is poised to welcome students back for the fall semester, continuing its mission to provide high-quality education and fostering an environment of academic excellence and growth.
